Massage Styles to Suit Your Needs
SWEDISH
When people think of therapeutic massage, often times people think of Swedish massage. Swedish massage is relaxing to the body and consists of rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Additional techniques include friction circles, kneading, tapotement (percussion-like tapping), bending and stretching. Oil or lotion is used to reduce friction. Swedish massage is great for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
MYOFASCIAL THERAPY (MFT)
MFT is a form of deep tissue that targets knots and releases muscle tension. Work is done on muscle tissue, tendons and fascia. Strokes can be with the grain or across the grain of the muscle. The primary techniques include cross fiber and longitudinal release. It is effective for elongating muscle fibers and breaking up adhesions / knots. MFT is done without the use of oil or lotion, but I usually combine some Swedish massage towards the end of the session to give you a therapeutic and relaxing massage.
DEEP TISSUE
Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish but primarily targets knots and releases muscle tension. Work is done on muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Strokes are usually across the grain of the muscles, not with the grain as in Swedish. Some techniques and pressure may be uncomfortable and cause soreness but ultimately can be relaxing and bring some pain/tension relief.
HYDROFRICTION / BODY SCRUB
Hydrofriction / salt or sugar glow exfoliates & tonifies the skin, sedates the nerves, then leaves the skin soft, supple and refreshed! For this relaxing treatment we can use ingredients such as oatmeal, lavender, coconut, coffee, honey, etc. A homemade body scrub will be prepared the same day of your visit.
BAREFOOT SHIATSU
Shiatsu, meaning finger (Shi) pressure (Atsu), is a Japanese style of massage. Shiatsu techniques use deep, rhythmic pressure on most areas of the body, pressing firmly and releasing gradually. Instead of using fingers, the feet will be used. It is often a pleasantly surprising treatment and very meditative.
CHAIR MASSAGE
An onsite service for my corporate clients. Chair massage is an effective, result oriented and timely massage of mostly the upper body including common areas of tension such as upper back, neck, arms, etc. 15-20 minutes later clients generally leave feeling relaxing, recharged and ready to return to work. The massage is a clothed massage and mostly involves forearm and elbow work.
